As a teacher in the Worcester Public Schools you will provide rigorous instruction to a diverse population of students, align teaching to district and state curriculum, routinely assess student learning, modify instruction to meet educational and behavioral needs, and create a classroom conducive to all students, especially English learners and students with disabilities.
Responsibilities- Member of the Special Education Team, writing educational plans and progress reports on SAGE-IEP, and completing assessments within required timelines.
- Follow student IEPs and ensure compliance with state and federal SPED regulations, including delivery of high-quality services and provisions of accommodations/modifications for instruction and assessment.
- Keep curriculum content current, modifying the curriculum (across all domains) and instruction for students per IEPs.
- Provide multi-sensory curricula daily and support student development of academics, social skills, communication skills, and behavior modification.
- Implement high-quality teaching and learning using appropriate differentiated instructional techniques.
- Communicate and collaborate with regular education teachers and other personnel in the educational programming for students.
- Understand state-required guidelines around standardized testing and provide appropriate accommodations as identified on student IEPs during test administration.
- Assess student knowledge and academic progress using formal and informal means to develop measurable IEP goals and support learning.
- Create and coordinate a schedule of services to ensure all IEP requirements are met.
- Provide individual, small group, and inclusion instruction aligned with the IEP.
- Guide and supervise paraprofessionals in the instruction/support of students.
- Implement appropriate assistive technologies to support and enhance students’ communication and learning.
- Promote equity and appreciation of diversity to ensure equitable opportunities for student learning in the least restrictive environment.
- Attend monthly department meetings and building-based meetings (two per month).

- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
- Massachusetts DESE license in Moderate Disabilities PreK-8 and/or Severe Disabilities PreK-2/All.
- SEI Endorsement.
- BA degree.
- Minimum of three years’ successful teaching experience in Special Education.
- ABA Experience.
- Evidence of mastery of a wide variety of teacher competencies, curricula and understanding of effective instructional models, including multi-sensory, structured language techniques.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Massachusetts DESE license in Moderate Disabilities PreK-8 and/or Severe Disabilities PreK-2/All.
- Demonstrated experience supporting students with severe special needs.
- Ability to speak Albanian, Arabic, Nepali, Portuguese, Spanish, Vietnamese, or an African language.
- Experience teaching students who are English language learners.
- Demonstrated experience with second language acquisition.
- Licensing from another state considered with temporary DESE license, required documentation and payment of DESE license as condition of employment.
