Position Summary

The Middle School Math and Science Teacher is responsible for delivering high‑quality, engaging instruction aligned with the Massachusetts state standards and fostering a supportive, inclusive classroom environment where all students can succeed. The ideal candidate will teach all Grade 4 students and foster academic growth, curiosity, and critical thinking in both Math and Science.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Curriculum Development – Design and implement a comprehensive, standards‑aligned Math and Science curriculum based on Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and school‑wide priorities.
  • Instruction – Deliver effective, differentiated instruction to meet the diverse needs of all learners; foster a positive, inclusive, and student‑centered classroom environment.
  • Assessment – Use formative and summative assessments to evaluate student progress; adjust instruction based on data to improve student outcomes.
  • Technology Integration – Integrate instructional technology to enhance learning and build digital literacy.
  • Collaboration – Work collaboratively with colleagues to design interdisciplinary projects and strengthen instructional practices.
  • Communication – Maintain open, proactive communication with students, families, and colleagues to support student success and a strong school community.
Qualifications and Expectations
  • Education & Certification – Bachelor's degree in Education, Math, Science, or a related field required;
    Master's degree preferred. Valid Massachusetts DESE teaching license in Elementary (1‑6). Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) endorsement required (or must be obtained within the first year of employment).
  • Experience – Prior classroom teaching experience required; experience in Grades 4‑8 preferred; demonstrated success teaching Mathematics and/or Science; familiarity with the Mathematics and Science Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities – Strong understanding of Math and Science instruction practices; proven ability to differentiate instruction to meet diverse learner needs, including ELs and students with special education plans; excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills; commitment to continuous improvement, equity, and culturally responsive teaching.
  • Authorization – Must be authorized to work in the United States.
Work Environment
  • Operates in a school and office setting.
  • Some travel between schools may be required.
  • Occasional evening and weekend events for board meetings, parent meetings, college nights, academic and/or athletic events, or professional development may be necessary.
  • Physical Demands
    • Ability to stand for extended periods, lift (up to 50 lbs.), and perform repetitive motions.
    • Frequent bending, crouching, stooping, and stretching.
    • Standing or walking for the entirety of an 8‑hour shift.
    • Must be able to work in a fast‑paced environment requiring multitasking and attention to detail.
