Job Description

As a teacher in the Worcester Public Schools you will provide rigorous instruction to a diverse population of students in your classroom. You will align your teaching to district and state curriculum, regularly assess student learning, modify instruction accordingly, and create a classroom conducive to the learning needs of all students, including those who are learning English and those with disabilities.

Accountability Objective

This position is accountable for delivering high‑quality instructional experience through creativity, resourcefulness and sound judgment in accordance with curriculum frameworks, standards, and the rules and regulations of the Worcester Public Schools.

Principal Responsibilities
  • Remain up to date regarding curriculum content.
  • Effectively plan and assess curriculum and instruction.
  • Mentor students’ understanding of the curriculum and adjust instruction, materials, or assessments when appropriate.
  • Effectively manage classroom environment.
  • Provide effective instruction, including making learning goals clear and using appropriate instructional and questioning techniques.
  • Use innovative approaches, instructional strategies, and technology to increase student learning and confidence.
  • Promote high standards and expectations for student achievement.
  • Promote equity and appreciation of diversity, implementing strategies for students with special needs, 504 plans, and second‑language learners.
  • Ensure equal educational opportunity for all individuals regardless of race, color, gender, age, marital status, religion, gender identity, national origin, sexual orientation, homelessness, or disability.
  • Perform other job‑related duties as assigned.
  • Required Qualifications
    • Massachusetts DESE license in Elementary, Mathematics, Science 1‑6; 5‑8.
    • SEI Endorsement.
    • Bachelor’s degree.
    Preferred Qualifications
    • Teaching experience in the content area.
    • Experience supporting students with special needs.
    • Proficiency in Albanian, Arabic, Nepali, Portuguese, Spanish, Vietnamese, or an African language.
    • Experience teaching English language learners.
    • Experience with second‑language acquisition.
    • Licensed in another state with eligibility for DESE temporary license (requires three complete school years of service).
    Working Conditions
    • 185 calendar days.
    • Salary scale based on Bachelor’s degree with potential increases for higher education level.
    • Salary: $61,410 to $91,240 per year.
