Overview
The History Department at the College of the Holy Cross invites qualified candidates for appointment as the inaugural George and Bernice Wyss Phillipp Professor of History. This endowed professorship is a position of high distinction, requiring a scholar with a record of distinguished achievement who will serve as a tenured full‑professor in the department.
Responsibilities- Maintain an active research agenda and an internationally significant academic profile.
- Design and teach interdisciplinary courses in the history of science and/or the history of medicine.
- Mentor students across programs and broaden the curriculum by building bridges across disciplines.
- Participate fully in college and departmental service obligations.
- Teach a teaching load of three courses per year.
- Distinguished scholarly record in the history of science and/or the history of medicine.
- Proven research and teaching expertise, including the use of evidence‑based teaching strategies and course designs that foster belonging and student success.
- Commitment to inclusive excellence and a deep commitment to the Jesuit liberal‑arts mission.
- Eligibility for tenure as a full professor in the History Department.
The base salary range for appointments beginning in August 2027 is $165,000 to $172,000. A dedicated research and professional‑development account is included, and the college offers nationally competitive sabbatical leave and research support policies.
