High Science School Teacher – Grades 7 & 8

The High Science School Teacher delivers high-quality science instruction aligned with the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and the IB curriculum, fostering a dynamic and inclusive learning environment while modeling the mission and character virtues of the school.

• Model the mission and character virtues of the school.
• Demonstrate deep knowledge of science and best practices in pedagogy.
• Guide the learning process toward curriculum goals, establishing clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects.
• Plan and deliver instruction based on explicit goals, utilizing varied instructional strategies that consider individual learning styles and performance levels.
• Organize instruction around essential questions or core learning objectives; teach for understanding and mastery.
• Employ and assess learning experiences that develop thinking skills and application of knowledge.
• Use multiple assessment forms to evaluate student learning, analyze data, and provide progress reports.
• Use assessment data to inform instruction and improve student outcomes.
• Create a classroom environment that is engaging, orderly, secure, and resonant with respect.
• Carry out the school’s disciplinary code and procedures fairly.
• Assign meaningful work that reinforces instruction and involves families in student progress.
• Provide written assessments, referrals, and evaluations for students with special needs; participate in IEP meetings as required.
• Participate in professional growth opportunities to remain current with best practices.
• Model learning and behavior consistent with expectations for students.
• Attend staff, team, and department meetings; serve on staff committees as necessary.
• Assist the administration in implementing student life and conduct policies.
• Collaborate with colleagues to improve curriculum and instructional effectiveness.
• Build positive relationships with students to support academic and social development.
• Integrate technology effectively into instruction.
• Engage in extracurricular activities and school community events.

• Bachelor's degree in Education or relevant subject area;
  Master's degree preferred.
• All Charter school teachers must hold an appropriate Massachusetts educator license or pass the Massachusetts Tests for Educator Licensure (MTEL) within the first year.
• Teachers assigned to English Language Learners (ELLs) must obtain the Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) Endorsement within one year through an approved course, the SEI MTEL exam, or a valid ESL license.
• Strong classroom management, communication, and organizational skills.
• Prior high‑school teaching experience preferred; experience with the IB Program is a plus.

The work environment is typically inside a school or classroom setting with moderate noise levels. Some travel between classrooms may be required.

• Stand for extended periods, lift up to 50 lbs., and perform repetitive motions.
• Bend, crouch, stoop, and stretch frequently.
• Stand or walk for the entirety of an 8‑hour shift.
• Work in a fast‑paced environment requiring multitasking and attention to detail.

• Full‑time, exempt position with compensation based on the School Year’s Instructional Salary Scale.
