Description:
The City of Worcester is seeking a qualified applicant for the Mentorship Leadership Experience Assistant Program Coordinator within the Division of Youth Opportunities. Under the direction of the Program Coordinator, the assistant will develop the program, engage families, and facilitate the curriculum of the MLE program, a free opportunity for youth ages 13 and 14 to acquire skills for community leadership and youth work.
The position involves leading a group of 13–14‑year‑olds in a workforce readiness program, coordinating athletic, academic, and arts components, and partnering with community organizations to offer holistic youth work opportunities.

Essential Elements:
- Develop and implement a curriculum that promotes youth skill development, personal growth, and leadership.
- Plan, organize, and lead MLE meetings and activities, ensuring a safe and engaging environment.
- Facilitate discussions and activities that promote teamwork and leadership development.
- Support staff in problem solving and crisis management.
- Evaluate program quality and recommend improvements.
- Continue development of the MLE program and curriculum.
- Facilitate weekly MLE program meetings.
- Develop and facilitate staff training.
- Build connections with community partners to provide field‑trip experiences.
- Supervise youth participants and guide them to field‑trip locations using the Worcester Regional Transit Authority bus system.
- Communicate effectively with parents/guardians regarding expectations, behavior, and policies.
Secondary Elements:
- Order office and summer program supplies.
- Plan meetings and take detailed notes.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to introduce fresh ideas into programming.
- Ability to communicate and work effectively with diverse populations, organizations, and interests.
- Ability to work with students with special educational or emotional needs.
- Problem‑solving and multi‑tasking abilities.
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment.
- Ability to give and receive constructive feedback.
- Relationship‑building and networking skills with participants, families, colleagues, and community members.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Leadership and decision‑making abilities.
- Regular on‑site attendance required.
Minimum Requirements:
- Associate’s degree in human services or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and two (2) years of work experience.
- Previous administrative experience.
- Experience working with children and families from diverse cultural, socioeconomic backgrounds, and abilities.
- Experience facilitating activities and programming.
- Must pass a criminal background check (CORI & SORI).
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Ability to travel to and from various Recreation Worcester and other city locations on a regular basis.
Preferred Qualifications:
- One (1) year of administrative experience.
- Two (2) years of staff supervision experience.
- Two (2) years of experience working with children and families from diverse cultural, socioeconomic backgrounds, and abilities.
- One (1) year of experience facilitating out‑of‑school activities and programming.
- Bilingual candidate.
- Worcester resident.
Salary: $17.50 hourly, full‑time, temporary, non‑benefitted.
