JOB TITLE Summer Program CounselorLOCATIONWorcesterDEPARTMENT NAMEMass Academy - JMDIVISION NAME Worcester Polytechnic Institute - WPIJOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY The Junior Academy at Mass Academy is a two-week summer program for rising 7th, 8th and 9th grade students from many backgrounds. This day program is designed to provide academic enrichment and support through meaningful learning opportunities so that students will be more confident, curious, and engaged in their learning and realize that science, technology, engineering, and mathematics are not only accessible to them, but they are also rewarding and can open doors for their future.

Participating students will receive literacy and math support, engage in hands-on STEM projects, and visit the WPI campus to tour labs and meet researchers.

JOB DESCRIPTION Assist teachers during academic classes

Provide academic support to individuals and groups of students as needed

Foster a positive, educational, and fun community; emphasize mutual respect and inclusiveness

Work with other members of the team to plan, organize, and facilitate activities

Assist with student drop off and/or pick up Ensure all students check in and check out every day Monitor students throughout the day to ensure student participants adhere to all rules and remain safe; report any concerns to the supervisors as they arise

Actively participate in Junior Academy team meetings

Work collaboratively with other Junior Academy staff, including teachers

Effectively communicate with parents, students, and staff

Participate in other aspects of the Junior Academy program (eg. morning meeting and team building activities)
Other duties as assignedREQUIREMENTSQualified candidates will have a growth mindset and believe all students are capable of learning at a high level when given the proper support

High school diploma or currently enrolled in high school required

Positive attitude, responsible work ethic, and ability to collaborate effectively with a team required.

Experience working with children preferred.

Strong communication skills required

Ability to work on your feet for long periods of time being very active (4-5 hours). May work events that are outdoor and exposure to heat, rain, and inclement weather.

An offer is conditional pending a criminal background check.

Participate in mandatory training for all staff.

Compensation depends on experience but is up to $18/hour.
