Job Description

As a teacher in the Worcester Public Schools, you will provide rigorous instruction to a diverse student population. Your responsibilities include aligning instruction to district and state curriculum, regularly assessing student comprehension, and modifying teaching strategies to support all learners—especially English language learners and students with disabilities. Your role requires patience, perseverance, creativity, strong content knowledge, and a commitment to preparing all students for successful lives.

Principal Responsibilities
  • Serve as a member of the Special Education Team, writing educational plans and progress reports on SAGE-IEP, and completing assessments within required timelines.
  • Follow student IEPs and ensure compliance with state and federal SPED regulations, including delivery of high‑quality services and provision of accommodations and modifications.
  • Maintain up‑to‑date curriculum content and modify instruction for students with learning disabilities as specified in their IEPs.
  • Provide daily multi‑sensory language curricula and support development of phonological awareness, decoding, fluency, word recognition, and comprehension skills in reading acquisition.
  • Implement high‑quality teaching in inclusion and/or LD classes using differentiated instructional techniques.
  • Communicate and collaborate with regular education teachers and other personnel for student programming.
  • Understand standardized testing guidelines and provide appropriate accommodations during test administration.
  • Assess student knowledge and academic progress using formal and informal means to develop measurable IEP goals.
  • Create and coordinate a schedule of services to ensure all IEP requirements are met.
  • Provide individual, small‑group, and inclusion instruction aligned with the IEP.
  • Guide and supervise paraprofessionals in instruction and support of students.
  • Implement assistive technologies to support and enhance students’ communication and learning.
  • Promote equity and appreciation of diversity to ensure equitable opportunities for student learning in the least restrictive environment.
  • Attend monthly department meetings and building‑based meetings (two per month).
  • Assure equal educational opportunity to all individuals regardless of race, color, gender, age, marital status, religion, gender identity, national origin, sexual orientation, homelessness, or disability.
  • Perform other job‑related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Massachusetts DESE license in Teacher of Students with Moderate Disabilities PreK-8.
  • SEI Endorsement.
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Minimum of three years’ successful teaching experience in Special Education.
  • Evidence of mastery of various teacher competencies, curricula, and instructional models, including multi‑sensory and structured language techniques.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting students with severe special needs.
  • Language proficiency in Albanian, Arabic, Nepali, Portuguese, Spanish, Vietnamese, or an African language.
  • Experience teaching English language learners.
  • Experience with second language acquisition.
Work Year and Salary

Work Year: 185 days

Salary:
Appropriate step on teacher’s salary schedule ($61,410 to $91,240 per year).
