The Middle School ELA Teacher
- Grade 6 The ELA Teacher will create a nurturing and engaging learning environment, facilitating student growth in literacy, critical thinking, and effective communication. This role involves close collaboration with students, parents, and colleagues to foster a love for learning and ensure academic excellence.

Design and implement a comprehensive, standards-aligned ELA curriculum based on the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks.

Develop engaging, differentiated lesson plans and instructional materials that meet the needs of all learners, including English Learners (ELs) and students with diverse learning profiles.

Teach and model effective reading, writing, and language strategies, emphasizing comprehension, fluency, vocabulary, grammar, and critical text analysis.

Integrate reading and writing across genres to support analytical and creative expression.

Utilize a variety of formative and summative assessments to monitor student learning and inform instruction.

Provide timely and constructive feedback to students and collaborate with administrators to reflect on and refine instructional practices.

Establish and maintain a positive, inclusive classroom climate that promotes respect, collaboration, and academic engagement.

Implement effective classroom management strategies to support a safe and productive learning environment.

Collaborate actively with ELA department colleagues and across disciplines to enhance curriculum alignment and instructional practices.

Engage in continuous professional learning and participate in school-wide initiatives, committees, and events.

Maintain open, proactive communication with parents/guardians to support student learning and growth.

Provide regular updates on academic progress, classroom activities, and strategies for continued improvement.

Incorporate educational technology and digital tools to enhance instruction, promote digital literacy, and support student engagement.

Bachelor's degree in Education, English, or a related field required;
Master's degree preferred.

Must hold or be eligible for Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) licensure in English (5-8) or Elementary (1-6).

Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) Endorsement required (or must be obtained within the first year of employment).

Prior classroom teaching experience required; experience in Grades 5-8 preferred.

Demonstrated success teaching English Language Arts.

Familiarity with the WONDERS ELA curriculum and Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks highly desirable.

Strong understanding of ELA content, pedagogy, and assessment practices.

Proven ability to differentiate instruction to meet diverse learner needs, including ELs and students with special education plans.

Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.

Commitment to continuous improvement, equity, and culturally responsive teaching.

Must be authorized to work in the United States.

This position operates in a school and office setting.

Some travel between schools may be required.
