Job Description

ACCOUNTABILITY OBJECTIVE: The Spanish Teacher is an energetic and flexible employee eager to work in our therapeutic day school with a high-needs population. This position is responsible for providing instructional experience through creativity, resourcefulness, and sound judgment that is consistent with the rules and regulations of the Central Massachusetts Collaborative. Applicants should be able to engage and motivate students, have effective classroom management strategies, and possess a love and joy for Spanish.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • 1. Plan, develop, and implement various Spanish experiences through creativity and resourcefulness, which lends to the educational growth and development of the targeted student population.
  • 2. Develop effective classroom presentation techniques and review, correct, and reinforce instructional lessons to enhance the learning and retention process.
  • 3. Plan a balanced Spanish program and organize daily class time to accomplish preparation, instruction and practice of skills within the allotted time.
  • 4. Select and utilize a variety of Spanish language and cultural materials, activities, and experiences that are appropriate for students’ ages, abilities, interests, and skill levels.
  • 5. Align instruction with MA Curriculum Frameworks and develop effective techniques for assessing student growth, participation, and completion of assigned projects.
  • 6. Differentiate the Spanish curriculum to meet the needs of the individual student and the student body and provide opportunities for individual and collaborative Spanish language experiences.
  • 7. Communicate clearly with parents and school faculty/staff on the progress of individual students.
  • 8. Maintains care/responsibility for school-owned Spanish materials and equipment to prevent loss or abuse.
  • 9. Works collaboratively with program directors and staff to provide Spanish programs.
  • 10. Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment during Spanish classes.
  • 11. Address and handle students with behavioral issues that may occur during Spanish class.
  • 12. Maintain data and all required documentation.
  • 13. Supervises para-professionals who attend Spanish classes with students.
  • 14. Complete CPI/nonviolent crisis intervention training upon hire and maintain CPI/nonviolent crisis intervention certification.
  • 15. Demonstrate sound judgments and decisions aligned with school regulations and philosophy, promote a positive school climate that fosters high student expectations, and employ appropriate strategies that address multiple learning styles for all students.
  • 16. Demonstrate effective professional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • 17. Able to reach, grasp, and handle objects using upper extremities and lift and carry objects and/or classroom equipment up to 45 pounds.
  • 18. Perform other job-related duties as assigned by the director.
