Job Summary

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Manage all Power-T&D training programs to meet a variety of Power Department needs.
  • Conduct classroom and field training on the various aspects of each classification.
  • Direct curriculum and develop documentation as necessary to expand training programs for new equipment and coordinate all training facility activities.
  • Review accidents and incidents to identify root causes and document lessons learned relevant to the event.
  • Conduct observations of operating employees in the performance of their duties.
  • Assist in the development of training programs, PowerPoint presentations, videos, handouts and written exams for the professional development and promotion of employees.
  • Schedule, coordinate, and conduct with Supervisors/Instructors classroom and on-the-job training to minimize any impact on regular personnel assignment.
  • Re-instruct employees on their duties when needed or directed by the Supervisor of Training and the Superintendent of T&D.
  • Assist in conducting safety trainings pertaining to Transmission & Distribution when needed.
  • Keep accurate training records on all students; and maintain up-to-date training programs by establishing ongoing communications with educational services and vendors.
  • Establish and maintain an audiovisual library of instructional material, direct the development of technical manuals for instructional and reference purposes, and evaluate existing training programs and provide suggestions for modifications and improvements.
  • Conduct checks on safety equipment on vehicles.
  • Assist operations during special events and holidays such as the 4th of July and New Year's Eve.
  • Drive a company or personal vehicle to visit work sites and to assist at emergencies and/or events as needed (Non-Revenue Vehicle Operator).
  • Respond, either directly or through others, to accidents and emergencies on a twenty-four (24) hour, seven (7) day per week basis, and assist in investigations of incidents.
  • Work any and all shifts and/or locations as assigned or directed.
  • Respond to each inquiry, whether from a customer, vendor or co-worker in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Uphold the rights and interests of the Authority while building and maintaining an effective relationship with employees; ensure the fair and consistent application and strict adherence to the rules, regulations, collective bargaining agreements (if applicable) and policies of the Authority including the EEO, Anti-Discrimination and Anti-Harassment and Anti-Retaliation policies.
  • Perform related duties and projects as assigned.

  • No direct report supervision, but will oversee all trainees in day-to-day instruction.
Minimum Requirements & Qualifications
  • A high school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) from an accredited institution.
  • Five (5) years of journey-level experience in the maintenance and installation of catenary systems, AC and DC cabling, duct banks, and related equipment operations.
  • Effective organizational and analytical skills.
  • Working knowledge of Word, Excel, Database or PowerPoint applications.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • The ability to pass: a Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) check; background screenings; and the MBTA's medical requirements, including a physical examination and drug and alcohol screening.
