Job Description

ACCOUNTABILITY OBJECTIVE:
The Music Teacher is an energetic and flexible employee who is eager to work in our therapeutic day school with a high needs population. This position is accountable for assuming the responsibility of providing instructional experience through creativity, resourcefulness and sound judgment consistent with the rules and regulations of the Central Massachusetts Collaborative. Applicants should have the ability to engage and motivate students, have effective classroom management strategies and possess a love and joy for music-making.

Primary

Responsibilities
  • Plan, develop, and implement various music experiences through creativity and resourcefulness which lends to the educational growth and development of targeted student population.
  • Develop effective classroom presentation, techniques, and review, correct, and reinforce instructional lessons to enhance the learning and retention process.
  • Plan a balanced music program, and organize daily class time so that preparation, rehearsal and instruction can be accomplished within the allotted time.
  • Utilize a repertoire of all types of music literature, including traditional and contemporary that are appropriate for the ages and skill levels of students.
  • Provide opportunities for music ensembles including jazz, rock band, choir & musicals.
  • Align instruction with MA Curriculum Frameworks.
  • Differentiate music curriculum to meet the needs of the individual student and the student body.
  • Evaluate each student’s musical growth and contribution to the performance of the group that allows everyone to contribute.
  • Communicate clearly with parents and school faculty/staff on the progress of individual students.
  • Maintain care and responsibility for school-owned music, musical instruments, and equipment to prevent loss or abuse.
  • Work collaboratively with Program Directors and staff in providing musical programs for school assemblies, open houses, parent meetings and seasonal programs.
  • Establish and maintain standards of student behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment during practice, group rehearsals, and music performances.
  • Address and handle students with behavioral issues that may occur during music class.
  • Maintain data and all required documentation.
  • Supervise para-professionals who attend music classes with students.
  • Complete CPI/nonviolent crisis intervention training upon hire and maintain CPI/nonviolent crisis intervention certification.
  • Demonstrate sound judgments and decisions aligned with school regulations and philosophy and promote a positive school climate that fosters high student expectations and employs appropriate strategies that address multiple learning styles for all students.
  • Demonstrate good communication skills and the ability to deal with people in a professional manner in all situations.
  • Able to reach, grasp and handle objects using upper extremities and able to lift and carry objects and/or classroom equipment, up to 45 pounds.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned by the director.
  • Job Requirements
    • REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Appropriate MA Teacher’s Certification.
    • Advanced educational preparation in the discipline or area of certification.
    • Experience in the discipline or area of certification.
    • Ability to work with musicians at all skill levels.
    • Strong instrumental skills, including piano accompaniment.
    • Willingness to promote and sustain a culture of music in and among the school community.
    • Bachelor degree preferred.
    • Citizenship, residency or work visa required.
    • WORK SCHEDULE:

      183 days
    • WORK HOURS:

      7.5 hours per day and additional hours as outlined in the CBA.
    • SALARY:
      Commensurate with experience and degree of education as outlined in the CBA.
