POSITION TITLE: Special Education Teacher
- Learning Center - Baker School

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Massachusetts DESE certification and licensure required
  • Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) Endorsement required
  • Elementary co-teaching experience preferred
  • Knowledge and experience using formal and informal assessment required
  • Knowledge and experience with competency-based and/or proficiency-based learning.preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, parents/guardians, and others in the delivery of effective services.
  • Superior organizational, written and verbal communication skills.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Public Schools of Brookline is seeking a highly qualified, motivated and creative special education teacher who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the Brookline community. Candidates should have experience working with students who have a range of learning disabilities and needs, and demonstrate the skills needed to deliver high quality specialized instruction, and routinely evaluate and assess student progress against instructional objectives.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain accurate and complete student records for assigned students as required by laws, district policies and administrative procedures.
  • Communicate and consult with parents, administrators and other professionals on students’ academic, social and behavioral progress.
  • Meet all timelines in the IEP process, including but not limited to participating and/or chairing IEP meetings, developing IEPs and progress reports, completing evaluations and reevaluations.
  • Employ special education strategies and techniques during instruction to improve student skills (executive functioning, reading, math, written expression, self advocacy, etc.)
  • Collaborate with general education teachers to adapt curricular materials in order to meet the individual needs of students.
  • Implement de-escalation strategies for students exhibiting significant dysregulation in the school setting.
  • Monitor student mastery of IEP goals and objectives using various assessments and data collection tools.
  • Complete formal assessments as part of the special education regulatory process
  • Utilize data to inform the development of academic and social emotional goals.
  • Plan and deliver competency based curricular lessons. Co-teach selected courses in partnership with general education colleagues.
  • Provide individualized academic support and instruction across content areas and/or learning skills, as needed, to target IEP goals and objectives.
  • Manage class operation by setting high academic and behavioral expectations, implementing routines, anticipating potential problems and taking appropriate preventative measures.

OTHER:

  • Fulfill other program and school duties as assigned by Director of Special Education and/or Principal
  • Comply with all policies and procedures for the Public Schools of Brookline
