Job Description

The Director of the Writing Center and Writing Program is responsible for the operations of the Writing Center, teaches for the English Department, and assists with the oversight of courses developed from the Writing Program budget. The Director will hire, provide on-going training for, and meet regularly with student writing tutors and set up the initial online schedule at the beginning of each semester.

In coordination with the English Department, the Writing Director will develop programming to promote student competency in writing. Each academic year, the Director will teach three courses for the English department, two with a Written Expression attribute. The Director will also work with the Chair of the English Department and the Coordinator of the Creative Writing program in determining, hiring for, and supervising courses developed from the Writing Center budget.

Finally, the Director will coordinate with the Office of the Dean of the College about the provision of expository writing courses and to identify and address students' writing needs across the University.

Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Creative Writing, or a master's or doctoral degree in English or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated experience administering, coordinating, or managing an academic, educational, or student-support program.
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, and students across departments.

Additional Information:

Expected Hiring Range: $60,900 to $70,900

The compensation for this position will be determined based on factors that include available budget, internal equity, and the selected candidate's qualifications, experience, education, and other job-related credentials. This range represents Clark University's good-faith estimate of the expected hiring range at the time of posting consistent with Clark's compensation philosophy and internal alignment.
