Job Description:
Basic Function:
The licensed Facility Operator operates and maintains the Central Steam and Co-generation Facility, on a shift basis, under the direction of the Chief Engineer per Massachusetts General Law Chapter 146 section 49. The Facilities operator will monitor steam, hot water, cooling, and Co-generation electrical systems including all other auxiliary components within the Facility.
Major Responsibilities:
- Maintains a shift in the operation and maintenance of the Facility. This will include monitoring correct water level and proper steam and or water pressure, maintaining records, logs, charts and reports related to facility operation.
- Place boilers on or off line according to demands.
- Perform routine maintenance in the Boiler Room and Co-generation Facilities.
- Perform Boiler water treatment tests on shift. Manually add chemicals and water to chemical tanks.
- Must be available periodically for emergency shift coverage due to illness of other Facility Operators.
- Maintain adequate fuel levels', make necessary additions to fuel levels by adding when warranted.
- Perform hourly readings on boilers, natural gas reciprocating engine and generator equipment.
- Follow and adhere to all maintenance schedules related to equipment within the facility.
- Clean, paint, and lubricate all Central Utility Plant auxiliary equipment as needed.
- Sweep, mop and paint floors within the Central Utility Plant as directed by the Chief Engineer.
Requirements:
- A Massachusetts Second Class Fireman's License or higher license.
- Work Schedule hours - September - May: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday 2:30pm
-10;30pm, Thursday & Friday off, Saturday & Sunday 2:30pm - 10:30pm. June - August: Monday - Friday 7:00 - 3:30pm. - Minimum of 5 years' experience in high pressure Steam/Co-generation plant operations, or equivalent combination of training and experience.
- A High School or Vocational School diploma or equivalent is required.
- Basic knowledge in troubleshooting high pressure boilers and co-generation equipment.
- Must possess basic computer skills, database monitoring and tracking skills.
- Must possess the theory and ability to apply good safety practices around high pressure boilers and high speed rotating equipment.
- Must be able to interact at a professional level with vendors, University administrators, and public representatives.
- Must be able to climb ladders, open and close valves atop boilers, and ability to lift up to 50lbs.
- Basis pipe-fitting/welding skills a plus.
- Must be available periodically for emergency shift coverage due to illness of other Facility Operators.
Expected Hiring Range: $ 32.15 to $ 33.50

The compensation for this position will be determined based on factors that include available budget, internal equity, and the selected candidate's qualifications, experience, education, and other job-related credentials. This range represents Clark University's good-faith estimate of the expected hiring range at the time of posting consistent with Clark's compensation philosophy and internal alignment.
