Overview

WSP is currently searching for an Experienced Geotechnical/Geological Engineer to join our New England practice. The candidate will be involved in projects with our Geotechnical Engineering Team as part of WSP’s Earth & Environment Group. The expectation for this full-time role is that the candidate will work in the office either fully in-person or on a hybrid in-person and remote schedule.

Eliot, ME;
Portland, ME;
Boston, MA;
Chelmsford, MA; or Worcester, MA.

Your Impact
  • Work as an individual or as part of a cross-functional team of engineers, planners, and scientific professionals to execute project work on multiple concurrent geotechnical engineering projects.
  • Provide guidance and training to junior geotechnical engineers.
  • Assist in the analysis, evaluation, and interpretation of data obtained during field investigations, offering input for project development, design, and construction.
  • Maintain quality control standards and procedures for accurate and precise measurements, statistical analysis of rock and soil data, and reporting.
  • Assist in the development of construction plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
  • Prepare data and visualizations such as tables, charts, accurate reports, sketches, calculations, and illustrations for the interpretation or presentation of data, findings, or analyses.
  • Assist with the preparation of technical reports and presentations that explain findings and recommendations to improve, prevent, control, restore, or address design and/or construction issues or opportunities.
  • Prepare and implement site Health and Safety Plans (HASPs).
  • Comply with regulatory requirements pertaining to data integrity, documentation, procedures, training, monitoring systems, and record compliance and retention.
  • Interact with subcontractors, clients, drillers, and laboratory staff in a confident and professional manner.
  • Remain current in latest geotechnical engineering techniques and practices.
  • Work collaboratively with other engineers and planners on projects with infrastructure authorities on Federal, State, regional, and locally funded improvement and development projects.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Geological Engineering, or closely related discipline.
  • 3-5 years of relevant post-education experience in engineering and prior geotechnical design experience.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) licensure or be on a career track to obtain it (including taking and passing the NCEES FE exam).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of geotechnical engineering topics, including design and analysis of deep foundations, shallow foundations, slope stability, seismic engineering, retaining walls, earth retention systems, rock mechanics, settlement of compressible soils, ground improvement techniques, support of excavation, dewatering, design/build, and related permitting and project work.
  • Developing understanding of rock and soil mechanics to investigate subsurface and geologic conditions to design and build foundations, earth structures, and pavement sub-grades.
  • Ability to make technical computations and calculations involving engineering principles, understanding plans and specifications, and making factual comparisons to regulations.
  • Experience with task management for small to mid-level projects including scoping and tracking hours and expenses.
  • Experience in subsurface explorations with senior technical guidance.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills for interacting with engineers and non-engineering audiences.
  • Self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization in a dynamic environment.
  • Ability to work independently and provide guidance to junior team or project members with QA/QC adherence.
