The RoleWe've been exclusively retained to help them locate an experienced progressive die designer to join their team to design and optimize high‑volume progressive stamping and deep draw dies for presses ranging from 15 to 300 tons. This hands‑on engineering position combines strong mechanical design expertise with practical knowledge of die construction, strip development, and high‑speed production. You'll work collaboratively with toolmakers, quality, and production teams.
WhatYou'll Do
- Design progressive stamping and deep draw dies optimized for high‑volume production
- Develop complete strip layouts including pitch development, station progression, and forming strategy
- Engineer forming, blanking, piercing, coining, tapping, and drawing stations
- Calculate tonnage requirements and ensure tooling compatibility across press ranges
- Design for high‑speed production while minimizing scrap and maximizing die life
- Design tooling for brass, copper, alloys, and specialty metals, accounting for spring back, grain direction, and work hardening
- Create detailed 3D CAD designs and fully detailed manufacturing prints
- Partner with toolmakers, quality, and production during die build and launch
- Drive continuous improvement through strip layout optimization and cost reduction
- 5+ years of progressive die design experience in high‑speed stamping environments
- Demonstrated expertise designing progressive stamping and deep draw dies with servo feed and coil handling
- Experience designing tooling for 15–300-ton presses
- Strong understanding of strip development and station sequencing
- Proficiency in 3D CAD software (Solid Works, AutoCAD, or equivalent)
- Solid mechanical aptitude and GD&T knowledge
- Experience with ISO or quality management systems
- Lean manufacturing or continuous improvement background
- Ability to thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced environment
This position is at our client's Vermont manufacturing facility.
