Position: Staff Test Automation Engineer

Job Description

Brio Health Solutions, Inc. is seeking a highly skilled Staff Test Automation Engineer to join its R&D team. The ideal candidate will be familiar with various test frameworks in both simulated and hardware-in-the-loop environments and, working with our software architect, have the opportunity to recommend, implement, and integrate a software test automation strategy for our BrioVAD implantable heart pump and related mechanical circulatory support (MCS) technologies.

This position involves supporting device verification through rigorous automated testing, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and maintaining the highest quality levels. It is a broad role, where collaboration with cross-functional teams, including hardware and system engineering, quality assurance and regulatory affairs will be necessary to deliver robust and reliable software solutions.

Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and maintain automated test scripts and frameworks for verifying medical device software in both simulated and hardware-in-the-loop environments.
  • Execute automated test suites to validate the functionality, performance, and reliability of Class II and III medical devices based on software requirements.
  • Utilize and integrate various test automation frameworks and tools to enhance test coverage and efficiency.
  • Support device verification activities, ensuring all software components meet design specifications and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure that all test automation activities comply with relevant regulatory standards and guidelines, including IEC 62304.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive test documentation, including test plans, test cases, test scripts, and test reports.
  • Work closely with software engineers, systems engineers, and other cross-functional team members to ensure seamless integration and thorough testing of software and hardware components.
  • Stay up to date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in test automation and medical device regulations. Continuously improve test automation processes and methodologies.
Requirements
  • Minimum of a BS degree in Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or relevant work experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in test automation, with a solid background in the medical device industry preferred but not required.
  • Proficiency in various test automation frameworks and tools, experience with hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) and simulation environments, and the ability to identify the highest value automation opportunities for the system.
  • Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git) and the knowledge to integrate automated testing solutions into CI/CD environments.
  • Ability to make critical judgments and decisions, to understand root causes of technical problems encountered, and execute thorough completion of documentation associated with work product.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and technical writing skills, with the ability to work in close collaboration with software engineers and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Ability to build cross-functional relationships across the organization where persuasive skills, negotiation expertise, and considerable tact are required to gain support.
