Assistant Superintendent:
Water Networks (Permanent)

Total Cost to Council: R 547 896 – R 692 141 per annum (Inclusive of Municipal benefits: Group Life Scheme, Pension Fund etc.)

Job Purpose

Coordination, prioritisation of activities and effective utilisation of personnel and plant in the operations at the Water and Sewer section whilst applying contingency measures in accordance with instructions to minimize specific problems, repairs and maintenance in the water and sanitation system network.

Duties
  • Assists the Superintendent to co-ordinates tasks/ activities associated with the implementation of procedures and, monitoring and reporting on sequences/ outcomes.
  • Assists the Superintendent to plan, prioritize and schedules water & sewer project and maintenance work.
  • Co-ordinates and controls tasks/ activities associated with controlling personnel performance, productivity and discipline.
  • Monitors and evaluates progress with regards to repair, construction, installation and maintenance type work (e.g. installation of underground pipelines, etc.)
  • Co-ordinates activities associated with the construction and installations of water and sewer networks.
  • Co-ordinates, monitors and controls water and sewer repair and construction work at specific sites.
  • To perform specific administrative tasks/ activities, delegated by the superintendent, associated with the updating and maintaining records/ information related to the activities/operations at the Depot.
  • To Adhere to health and safety regulations in terms of OHS Act.
Job Requirements
  • Trade Test Certificate Plumbing or equivalent technical qualification
  • Valid Code C1 driver’s license with PrDP
  • Computer Literacy (MS Office Applications)
  • 3 years relevant experience
  • Proficiency in at least (2) two of the (3) three languages of the Western Cape
  • Applicant with a foreign/ international educational qualification must submit a certificate of verification by SAQA.
  • Attach updated CV, certified copies of qualifications and valid driver’s license not older than six (6) months, supporting documents and covering letter.
  • Candidates will be subjected to thorough evaluations and that previous and current employer and references will be contacted. Verification will be done on education qualifications, criminal and credit record.
  • Candidates will be subject to a medical examination.
  • Any candidate appointed at the Breede Valley Municipality will sign an employment and performance agreement subject to probation per the Local Government:
    Municipal Staff Regulations.
