Who We Are:

We partner with businesses, nonprofits, developers, banks, and municipalities to help create jobs, build housing, and foster vibrant communities across the state. We value diverse perspectives, encourage innovation, and are committed to building a stronger Massachusetts.

The Vice President of Lending plays a key role in advancing Mass Development’s mission by managing the full lifecycle of commercial lending transactions, including loan and mortgage insurance guarantees. The ideal candidate will bring strong financial and credit analysis expertise, sound business judgment, and a commitment to fostering inclusive and equitable economic growth across the Commonwealth.

What You'll Do

  • Manage transactions through the full lending lifecycle, including credit analysis, approval, commitment, documentation, closing, and ongoing portfolio management.
  • Prepare and present financing requests to the Credit Committee, senior leadership, and Board of Directors.
  • Analyze borrower financial statements, assess creditworthiness and risk, and monitor portfolio performance through annual reviews, covenant compliance, and ongoing risk assessments.
  • Review loan and construction advance requests to ensure consistency with approved loan terms and Agency requirements.
  • Build and maintain relationships with borrowers, banks, referral sources, and public and private sector partners to identify financing opportunities and expand access to capital.
  • Collaborate with financial institutions on participations, guarantees, and co-lending arrangements.
  • Maintain accurate loan and borrower records and contribute to financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and analytical presentations.
  • Represent Mass Development at industry events, conferences, and community engagements while promoting the Agency's products and programs.
  • Support special projects and perform other duties as assigned.
What We're Looking For

  • Five (5) or more years of experience in commercial lending, business lending, commercial real estate lending, construction lending, or a related financing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of commercial loan underwriting, credit analysis, risk assessment, loan structuring, documentation, and portfolio management, including formal credit training or a strong commercial credit background.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze financial statements, evaluate creditworthiness, and structure complex lending transactions.
  • Experience with commercial real estate lending and familiarity with state and federal tax credit programs, green finance tools, and other economic development financing resources.
  • Proven relationship management and business development skills, with the ability to cultivate partnerships with borrowers, financial institutions, referral sources, and other stakeholders.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, organizational, verbal, and written communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
