Major Responsibilities- Administers therapy evaluations and develops treatment plans for physically, cognitively, developmentally, and/or functionally disabled patient populations, including infants, children, adolescents, adults, geriatrics and frail elderly, in inpatient or outpatient settings as assigned.
- Analyzes and interprets data, assesses individual functional ability, creates a plan of care addressing identified problems, researches specific issues, and revises plans as appropriate. Consults with physician regarding contradictions or alternative therapies and assesses patient progress relative to rehabilitation potential.
- Designs treatment plans based on initial evaluations, establishes short‑ and long‑term goals, and utilizes therapeutic interventions and activities to remediate, restore, and/or compensate for losses in physical, perceptual, cognitive, sensory, psychosocial, and functional skills.
- Selects purposeful activities tailored to patients’ emotional, intellectual, and physical functional level to maximize independence.
- Educates patients, families, and other caregivers about the therapy program and goals. Participates in patient care meetings, collaborates with team members, assists with discharge planning, and discusses progress with physician.
- Documents care provided in the medical record and completes documentation supporting therapy billing and departmental statistics.
- Maintains an orderly, safe, and efficient work environment; assists with inventory and purchasing as assigned.
- Educates and develops staff, delegates caseload to therapist assistants as appropriate, supervises performance, collaborates with team members to assure coverage and equitable work distribution.
- Participates in department quality‑improvement, assurance activities, and program development initiatives.
- Complies with departmental policies, procedures, and objectives; attends meetings, conferences, seminars as required.
- Demonstrates use of quality improvement in daily operations.
- Complies with all health and safety regulations and requirements, respects diverse views, and contributes to a professional, tolerant, civil, and accepting environment.
- Performs other similar and related duties as directed.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Therapy (or equivalent bachelor’s degree with a certificate or diploma for successful completion of a post‑degree program in Occupational Therapy).
- Successful completion of the AOTA certification exam, or eligibility and scheduling for next sitting.
- Current Massachusetts state license as Occupational Therapist (required).
- Where certification, licensure or registration is not required, an equivalent combination of education and experience that provides proficiency may be substituted.
- Department‑specific competencies, including age‑specific ones, will be developed and maintained in individual departments.
Work is considered medium. Position requires indoor patient‑care environment.
