- Provide clear, timely communication to the RN regarding observations and changes in patients (skin condition, vital signs, mental status).
- Provide constant observation of high‑risk patients as assigned by the Resource Nurse or designee.
- Participate in the development and maintenance of a safe environment, including de‑escalation and restraint participation as directed.
Assist patients with daily living activities such as personal hygiene, ambulation, meals, and nourishment. - Assist in moving, lifting, positioning, and transporting patients using proper body mechanics.
- Maintain patient safety by performing safety checks and following the Restraint Policy standards.
- Take and record vital signs, height, and weight.
- Perform EKGs, POC tests, and bladder scanning according to hospital standards; collect, label, and prepare specimens for lab transport.
- Perform phlebotomy in certain locations.
- Demonstrate sensitivity and responsiveness to patients’ needs and build positive rapport.
- Perform unit‑specific procedures such as telemetry battery changes, equipment checks, and cleaning.
- Assist RN/LIC with treatment and procedures, preparing equipment, using sterile technique, positioning patients, and providing emotional support.
- Observe, measure, and record oral food and fluid intake; set up and refill tube feeding solutions.
- Answer telephone and relay messages using appropriate etiquette.
- Replenish patient and unit supplies and equipment.
- Keep current with hospital and unit changes via communication boards, bulletin boards, and UMMHC e‑mails.
- Unit Secretary – provides admission, transfer, and discharge assistance for at least 5 shifts (40 hours) every 6 months, including administrative responsibilities with the electronic medical record system.
- Remote Video Monitoring – continuously observes multiple patients using the remote video monitoring system in ED, Step‑Down Unit, ICU, Dialysis, and Hospital at Home.
- Telemetry Certified & Step‑Down Unit – cross trained in phlebotomy and telemetry competencies, and assigned to higher‑acuity areas such as the Step‑Down Unit.
- Comply with established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives.
- Attend meetings, conferences, and seminars as required.
- Demonstrate use of Quality Improvement in daily operations.
- Comply with all health and safety regulations and requirements.
- Respect diverse views, contribute to a professional, tolerant, civil, and accepting environment.
- Maintain regular, reliable, and predictable attendance.
- Perform other similar and related duties as required.
- Minimum of a high school education or GED.
- Current Basic Life Support.
- Demonstrated competency attainment in the PCT II level.
- Prior inpatient/outpatient care experience or clinical care training.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate in English in a clear and concise manner.
