Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Lead Ultrasound Technologist, provides direct patient care and related functions in support of the department. Works independently within the department policies and under the direction of a qualified Radiologist. Travel between Marlborough and Nashoba/Groton as scheduled to provide operational, administrative, or departmental support. The float requirement applies to newly hired staff at UMass Memorial Nashoba Valley.

Responsibilities
  • Properly perform all ultrasound techniques and examinations, in accordance with patient age and departmental/professional standards and protocols.
  • Gather pertinent clinical data and maintain accurate patient records.
  • Complete records, paperwork, and billings; submit promptly.
  • Position and transfer patients; assist physicians with interventional exams.
  • Complete exams promptly, perform QC on images, and send exams to PACS for radiologist review.
  • Assist radiologists with ultrasound-guided interventional procedures.
  • Follow Universal protocols in accordance with hospital policy and procedure.
  • Assist in maintaining an orderly inventory and arranging purchase of needed supplies.
  • Monitor equipment for proper operation and ensure supplies are available as needed.
  • Utilize proper sterilization and cleansing of all probes per department policy and procedure.
  • Assist with other job-related duties including film processing, urgent requests, and scheduling.

Position Qualifications

License/Certification/Education

  • Required:
    • Graduate of an accredited Ultrasonography or Radiological Technology program.
    • Registration required by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) in one category within one year of hire date.
  • Preferred:
    • Associate degree.
Experience/Skills
  • Required:
    • Minimum one year of experience in diagnostic ultrasound under the direction of a qualified physician.
    • Knowledge of Physics and Instrumentation, Abdominal OB/Gyn Ultrasound for ARDMS exams.
    • Ability to provide quality patient care with minimal supervision in a fast-paced setting, collaborating with peers to achieve optimum results.
    • Verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate with patients and families.
Additional Information
  • Unless certification/licensure/registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
  • Department-specific competencies will be developed and maintained in the department and attached to the departmental job description.

  • Constant:
    Performing repetitive movements and working indoors; lifting less than 10 pounds.

    Sitting, reaching, grasping, precise motor skills, precise hearing and vision; carrying/pushing less than 10 pounds; pulling 50 to over 100 pounds.

    Standing, walking, pushing, pulling, twisting; bending; high level of stress; lifting 10 pounds to over 100 pounds.
  • Never:
    Climbing, balancing, kneeling, crawling, working outdoors, extreme temperatures, or working at heights.
