Hours needed: weekdays during the daytime

A Hospice Volunteer plays a vital role in providing compassionate care and support to patients and their families during a challenging and emotional time. Bring your unique talents and skills to patients in your community.

Position Summary:

Provides compassionate care and support for terminally ill patients and their families.

Functions & Responsibilities:

Makes home visits and phone calls to patients and families. Activities may include respite care, companionship, recreation, shopping, light household chores and light meal preparation.

Acts as an advocate and educator for the patient and family.

Maintains scheduled visits in a consistent manner.

Acts as liaison between volunteer coordinator, nursing staff, patient, patient's family and other disciplines.

Is aware of role as Agency representative in the community, fosters good community relations through attainment of customer satisfaction.

Qualifications:

Compassionate, empathetic, and non-judgmental demeanor.

Ability to listen and offer support in a sensitive and respectful manner.

Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.

Reliable and able to commit to the agreed upon schedule with the hospice team.

Previous experience with volunteering, healthcare, or caregiving is beneficial but not required.

Must be 18 years of age or older.

Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to professional standards.

Must complete required background check and volunteer training.
