Major Responsibilities
Administers therapy evaluations and develops treatment plans for physically, cognitively, developmentally, and/or functionally disabled patient populations, including infants, children, adolescents, adults, geriatrics, and frail elderly, inpatient or outpatient as assigned.Analyzes and interprets data, assesses functional ability, researches specific problems, and makes differential diagnoses. Consults with physicians regarding any contradictions or alternative therapies. Assesses patient progress relative to rehabilitation potential.Designs treatment plans based on initial evaluation and assessment. Establishes short‑ and long‑term goals. Utilizes therapeutic interventions and activities to remediate, restore, and/or compensate for losses in physical, perceptual, cognitive, sensory, psychosocial, and functional skills. Provides treatment in both individual and group settings.Selects purposeful activities suited to the patient's emotional, intellectual, and physical functional level to maximize independence.Educates patients, families, and other caregivers in the therapy program and goals; participates in patient care meetings, collaborates with team members, assists with discharge planning, and discusses treatment and progress with physicians.Documents care provided in the medical record. Completes therapy billing and departmental statistics. Assists with maintaining an orderly, safe, and efficient working environment, including inventory and purchasing as assigned.Assists in the education and development of staff. Delegates caseload to therapist assistants, oversees quality of care, and supervises performance. Collaborates with team members to assure patient coverage and equitable work distribution.Participates in department quality improvement and assurance activities and program development initiatives.Supervises students according to Practice Standards.Standard Staffing Level Responsibilities
Complies with established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives.Attends meetings, conferences, seminars as required or directed.Demonstrates use of Quality Improvement in daily operations.Complies with all health and safety regulations and requirements.Respects diverse views and demonstrates Standards of Respect, contributing to a professional, tolerant, civil, and inclusive environment.Maintains regular, reliable, and predictable attendance.Performs other similar duties as required or directed.Position Qualifications License/Certification/Education
Required:
- Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Therapy or equivalent.
- Current Massachusetts state license as an Occupational Therapist.
Preferred:
- Any additional relevant credentials.
Experience/Skills
Required:
- Successful completion of the national certification exam, or eligibility and scheduled for the next sitting.
Preferred:
Unless certification, licensure, or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience providing proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed may be substituted.
Physical Demands and Environmental Conditions
Work is considered medium. The position requires indoor work in a normal patient care environment.
