Overview

A mission-driven nonprofit organization in the Worcester area is seeking an experienced HR Generalist on a contract basis to provide hands-on support across the full employee lifecycle. This role is well-suited for a seasoned generalist who has touched all core areas of HR and is comfortable operating independently in a fast-paced, people-focused environment.

The HR Generalist will partner closely with leadership and managers while remaining deeply involved in day-to-day HR operations.

Responsibilities
  • Act as a primary point of contact for employee and manager HR questions
  • Support employee relations matters, including coaching, documentation, and issue resolution
  • Assist with recruiting coordination, interviewing, and onboarding
  • Support benefits administration, leaves of absence, and employee status changes
  • Ensure compliance with employment laws, internal policies, and nonprofit requirements
  • Maintain personnel files, HRIS records, and reporting
  • Assist with job descriptions, performance review processes, and policy updates
  • Provide hands-on HR support during periods of transition, growth, or increased workload
Qualifications
  • 4–7+ years of HR experience in a generalist capacity
  • Broad exposure across employee relations, recruiting, benefits, compliance, and HR operations
  • Experience supporting both hourly and salaried populations
  • Prior nonprofit or mission-driven organization experience preferred
  • Comfortable working in a lean HR environment with limited structure
  • Strong communication skills and sound judgment
  • Ability to step in quickly and add value with minimal ramp-up
