Global Category Manager – Powder & Atomization
This role leads sourcing strategy, supplier relationships, and commercial execution for metal powder feedstock and atomization services supporting a rapidly scaling advanced manufacturing environment.
What You’ll Own- Own the sourcing strategy for metal powders across key alloy families.
- Lead sourcing and negotiations with powder producers and toll atomizers.
- Partner with Engineering and Quality on powder specs, lot acceptance, and supplier qualification.
- Manage powder procurement from planning through delivery.
- Build the supplier base and manage cost, quality, delivery, and lot consistency.
- Develop should-cost and TCO models for powder purchases.
- Reduce supply risk through dual sourcing, inventory planning, and risk management.
- Improve material yield and cost through powder reuse, reclaim, and recycling.
- Ensure traceability and compliance with quality and federal sourcing requirements.
- Deliver annual savings and cost-avoidance targets; report category performance.
- Help build and scale the powder and atomization category team.
- Bachelor’s degree required; technical or supply chain degree preferred.
- 8+ years in procurement/supply chain, including 4+ years leading direct or raw-material categories.
- Direct/raw-material sourcing, contracting, supplier qualification, and multi-source experience.
- Technical fluency in metal powders, specialty metals, or similar engineered materials.
- Strong spend analysis, should-cost, and TCO skills.
- Ability to translate technical requirements into commercial strategy.
- Strong negotiation and senior-level supplier management skills.
- Independent operator comfortable in a fast-paced, technical environment.
- Additive manufacturing, powder metallurgy, aerospace, defense, or medical devices.
- Gas/plasma atomization, powder characterization, or specialty-metals supply chains.
- Regulated raw/direct-material sourcing (AS9100, ISO 9001, or NADCAP).
- CPSM, CPM, or similar certification.
- Epicor, SAP, or similar ERP/procurement systems.
- ITAR/DFARS and domestic specialty-metals sourcing exposure.
Base salary: $113,000–$157,000, based on experience and qualifications.
