Job DescriptionPerforms a variety of duties involving inventory needs, repair, and preventative maintenance on a variety of vehicles (Emergency Medical Services (EMS) ambulances, lawnmowers, snow blowers, cars, trucks, vans). This position works under the direction of the senior mechanic.
Major Responsibilities- Assists with the maintenance and repair of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) ambulances to meet federal standards including truck, chassis, and patient care areas.
- Performs preventative maintenance on trucks, plows, sanders, cars, vans, and loaders, as well as small equipment.
- Assists in the repair or replacement of hydraulic, brake, and exhaust systems on the vehicles as needed; changes filters and fluids; repairs tailgate systems and electrical systems.
- Assists with maintaining adequate inventory levels of supplies, parts and tools used for maintaining hospital equipment and vehicles.
- Maintains accurate records of work completed.
- Provides assistance with groundwork as required.
- Required: Must have a valid Massachusetts driver license (Class D rating preferred).
- Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certification with 2 years experience – or – 5 years applicable experience.
- Emergency Vehicle Technician Certification (must be obtained within 1 year of start).
- Preferred: A valid Massachusetts Hoisting Engineer License (Class 2A rating preferred).
- Previous vehicle mechanic and preventative maintenance experience.
- Ability to work with various hand and power tools.
- Ability to read, write, calculate, and follow verbal and written instructions.
- Must be able to work flexible shifts as needed to provide a safe work environment for patients, employees and visitors (e.g., snow removal).
- Must be able to work independently.
- Employees must be at least 18 years of age to perform this role.
Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience that provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.
Hydraulics license required within one year.
