OverviewKirby Bates Associates has been exclusively retained by Baystate Health to conduct a search for their next Director, Emergency Services (Nursing) at Baystate Health in Springfield, Massachusetts. Baystate Health is a not-for-profit, integrated health system serving the communities of western Massachusetts. Five-time Magnet-designated Baystate Medical Center (BMC) in Springfield, MA, features the busiest single-site ED in Massachusetts and stands as the region’s only Level I trauma center and specialized pediatric emergency unit, treating over 120,000 high-acuity adult and pediatric patients annually.
The ED spans ~72,000 sq ft with 94 private rooms, separate pediatric and behavioral-health areas, 10 ambulance bays, and a rooftop helipad. The pediatric unit includes 17 beds with 90 visits per day.
- Reporting to the Baystate Medical Center Chief Nursing Officer, drive strategic planning and operational excellence across the Department of Emergency Services.
- Collaborate with Emergency Medicine leadership to achieve clinical and organizational goals and lead a high‑performing team focused on engagement, development, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
- Serve as a key liaison with community partners including EMS, Fire, Police, and Emergency Management.
- Join one of the nation’s busiest Level 1 trauma centers, led by an innovative team leveraging real-time, data-driven insights to achieve measurable improvements.
- Oversee both adult and pediatric emergency departments within a five-time Magnet‑designated hospital, known for its strong educational pathways for nurses.
- Partner with a dynamic System Chair of Emergency Medicine—recently spotlighted in Becker’s—in a progressive, results‑oriented, interdisciplinary team environment.
- A master’s degree in nursing and eligibility for a Massachusetts RN license.
- Five years of progressively responsible leadership experience in an emergency setting.
