Overview

Residential Landscape Construction & Maintenance

Sequence has been exclusively retained to identify a Director of Operations for one of the Northeast's most respected and established residential landscape service organizations. This is a senior leadership opportunity for an experienced operations executive who thrives in a fast-paced, service-driven environment and enjoys building teams, improving systems, and driving operational excellence across a growing organization. Reporting directly to executive leadership, the Director of Operations will oversee day-to-day field operations, branch performance, staffing, equipment utilization, project execution, safety, and client service throughout the Cape Cod region.

The successful candidate will serve as the operational quarterback for the business, ensuring crews, managers, and resources are aligned to deliver exceptional results while supporting continued growth. This role balances people leadership, operational discipline, financial accountability, and customer satisfaction.

Position Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership and oversight for all field operations across landscape maintenance, enhancement, and design/build divisions.
  • Lead and mentor Operations Managers, Construction Managers, Branch Managers, Project Managers, Account Managers, Supervisors, and field personnel.
  • Ensure successful execution of commercial and residential landscape construction and design/build projects.
  • Oversee project scheduling, manpower planning, equipment deployment, subcontractor coordination, and resource allocation.
  • Partner with design, estimating, sales, and account management teams to ensure smooth transitions from proposal through project completion.
  • Drive accountability for safety, quality, profitability, production, and customer satisfaction.
  • Monitor project performance, budgets, labor utilization, and operational KPIs.
  • Establish operational processes and reporting systems that support scalability and growth.
  • Improve efficiency across maintenance, construction, irrigation, and enhancement operations.
  • Support recruiting, workforce development, retention, and succession planning initiatives.
  • Participate in annual budgeting, forecasting, and strategic planning efforts.
  • Foster a culture centered on professionalism, teamwork, accountability, craftsmanship, and client service.

The Ideal Candidate
  • 5 to 10+ years of progressive operational leadership experience.
  • Experience leading multiple crews, departments or branches.
  • Strong background in landscape construction, design/build, site development, or related project-based operations.
  • Experience overseeing projects involving grading, drainage, irrigation, hardscape, planting, outdoor living environments, and site improvements.
  • Proven ability to manage labor-intensive field operations at scale.
  • Strong financial and operational management skills, including budgeting, forecasting, labor management, and project profitability.
  • Demonstrated success developing teams and future leaders.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities.
  • A passion for operational excellence, craftsmanship, and customer satisfaction.
