Witt Kieffer is honored to partner with UMass Chan Medical School (UMass Chan), located in Worcester, Massachusetts, in the search for their next Executive Vice Chancellor for Administration & Finance (EVC of A&F). UMass Chan is seeking an accomplished, strategic, and innovative executive to serve as the institution's chief administrative and financial officer and a key advisor to the Chancellor. This individual will play a critical role in shaping the future of one of the nation's premier academic health sciences centers by advancing its financial strength, operational effectiveness, and long-term strategic priorities.
As the Commonwealth of Massachusetts' only public medical school, UMass Chan Medical School is recognized nationally for excellence in education, research, and public service. With annual revenues exceeding $1.2 billion, more than 4,000 faculty members, and over $350 million in research funding, UMass Chan is among the fastest-growing biomedical research institutions in the country. The institution's remarkable momentum, national reputation, and mission-driven culture make this a unique opportunity for an executive leader to have a lasting impact on academic medicine, scientific discovery, and health outcomes.
Reporting directly to the Chancellor and serving as a member of the executive leadership team, the EVC of A&F provides enterprise-wide leadership for finance, administration, operations, and institutional strategy. The role oversees a broad portfolio that includes financial planning and budgeting, facilities, information technology, human resources, research administration, and other critical administrative functions. As a trusted advisor to the Chancellor, the EVC of A&F will possess an entrepreneurial mindset and demonstrate both the vision to uncover new opportunities and the operational acumen to translate them into measurable results.
The ideal candidate will bring substantial, progressive senior-level leadership experience in complex healthcare, academic medicine, research, higher education, or similarly mission-driven environments. Candidates should possess exceptional financial and operational acumen, a demonstrated ability to lead large-scale administrative functions, and a track record of driving organizational performance through periods of growth and change. Equally important are strong relationship-building skills, political and organizational savvy, sound judgment, and the ability to collaborate effectively across diverse stakeholder groups while fostering an inclusive culture grounded in integrity, respect, and continuous improvement.
UMass Chan welcomes all qualified applicants and complies with all state and federal anti-discrimination laws.
The anticipated base salary range for this position is $450,000 - $550,000. The referenced salary range is commensurate with the candidate's skills, education, and relevant experience.
