JustificationThe Mass General Brigham Medical Group is a system-led operating entity formed by Mass General Brigham to deliver high quality, low cost, innovative community-based ambulatory care. This work stems from the unified system strategy to bring health care closer to patients while lowering total health care costs. The Medical Group provides a wide range of offerings, including primary care, specialty care, behavioral and mental health, and urgent care, both digitally and at physical locations in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Maine.
The group also offers outpatient surgery and endoscopy, imaging, cardiac testing, and infusion. We share the commitment to delivering a coordinated and comprehensive experience across all locations, ensuring the appropriate level of care is available to every patient across our care delivery sites.
Our After Hours Call Program provides virtual visits, telephonic support, and clinical guidance to our patients when our primary care practices aren’t open (evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays).
Position:Per Diem Nurse Practitioner / Physician Assistant
We are seeking a Per Diem Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant to join the After Hours Call Program. The role requires the following per‑diem commitments:
- Minimum weekend day-time hours per month
- Holiday commitment: 20 hours per year
The Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant is a licensed provider responsible for the assessment and management of various patient populations, including diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, development of appropriate care plans, and ongoing evaluation.
Essential Functions- Provides direct care, counseling, and teaching to a designated patient population in ambulatory, inpatient, operative, and/or procedural settings.
- Performs complete histories and physical examinations.
- Orders, interprets, and evaluates appropriate laboratory and diagnostic tests.
- Develops appropriate plans of care and follow‑up based on diagnostic, laboratory, and physical examination findings.
- Orders medications and writes prescriptions according to organizational and regulatory policies and procedures.
- Consistently provides high-quality and timely documentation including admission and progress notes, procedure notes, operative notes, and discharge summaries.
- Performs bedside procedures as appropriate to the patient population.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Complies with all policies and standards.

Qualifications Education- Master’s Degree in Nursing required OR Master’s Degree in Physician Assistant required.
- Can this role accept experience in lieu of a degree? No
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certificate preferred.
- Registered Nurse (RN) – State License.
- Nurse Practitioner (NP) / Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN).
- Physician Assistant – State License (Generic HR Only).
- 4 years of primary care/triage nurse practitioner or physician assistant experience required.
- Skilled in taking medical histories to assess medical condition and interpret findings.
- Ability to maintain quality control standards.
- Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
- Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures.
- Ability to communicate clearly and establish/maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff and the public.
