RN, Surgical Day Care
Purpose of PositionDelivers patient care through the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Administers and monitors patient responses to all medications. Directs and guides patient care, teaching, and activities of ancillary personnel while maintaining standards of professional nursing within the realm of Hospital Policy. Maintains and delivers the highest quality customer service standards.
Responsibilities- Properly utilize the nursing process and maintain relevant, accurate, and current patient records as evidenced by Nursing PI activities.
- Document patient assessment throughout the hospital admission, including physical, psychological, and social dimensions, and develop discharge plans. Summarize assessment data and initiate plans of care, communicating pertinent data to allied patient care providers.
- Understand, assume, and demonstrate proficiency in the role of charge nurse.
- Demonstrate proficiency in Computerized Nursing Informatics.
- Serve as a resource person regarding patient care, orientation, and teaching staff.
- Participate in at least four‑unit staff meetings per year, attend mandatory programs, and obtain three hours of Patient Care Assessment Committee (PCAC) credit annually.
- Participate in identifying aspects of care for the patient, monitoring quality indicators, and evaluating care. Adhere to safety, blood/body fluid policies, and procedures.
- Assess personal learning development needs; maintain documentation of current and ongoing professional development activities. Keep knowledge of techniques and regulations current for the age of the patient served.
- Represent the hospital in the community and within the hospital, maintaining confidentiality regarding patients and hospital matters, and present the hospital in a manner that best markets its services.
- Consistently provide service excellence to all patients, family members, visitors, volunteers, and co‑workers.
- Perform other work‑related duties and activities as assigned or requested by the immediate supervisor.
- Sign‑on bonus eligible.
- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
- Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
- Basic Life Support Certification required and must be maintained.
- ACLS Certification required and must be maintained.
- Successful passage of the CCH’s Pharmacology exam.
- Successful passage of the Basic Arrhythmia Program or challenge exam.
- Must be able to read, write, and communicate in English.
- PALS Certification required within six months of position and must be maintained.
- BSN preferred.
- Demonstrated skills in IV starts, hemodynamic monitoring, and ventilator care.
- One year of recent experience (within the last five years) in ICU/CVICU/CVPA/ER or SDC/PACU required.
- Prior SDC or PACU experience preferred.
- On‑call required for off‑shift, weekends, and holidays.
32 Hours Per Week, rotating days: 11:00 a‑7:30 p, 1:00 p‑9:30 p, 3:00 p‑11:30 p. On‑call required for nights, weekends, and holidays. Sign‑on bonus eligible.
LocationMassachusetts‑Hyannis, Cape Cod Hospital – Department: CCH‑Surgical Day Care.
CompensationHourly: $38.36 – $78.11. The pay range reflects the anticipated range for new hires; actual compensation will be determined by work history, experience, skill set, and education. Benefits include healthcare/dental/vision and retirement, as applicable.
