Registered Nurse II – Adolescent Services (260004OU) – Worcester Recovery Center and Hospital (WRCH), Department of Mental Health (DMH).

We are seeking experienced Registered Nurses who will provide direct nursing care to adult and geriatric patients on an inpatient unit, following standards of care.

Full‑time, 40‑hour workweek. Available shifts:

• Unit E1 – 2nd Shift, 2:45 PM–11:15 PM:
  Week 1 days off – Monday/Saturday;
  Week 2 days off – Sunday/Wednesday.
• Unit E1 – 2nd Shift, 2:45 PM–11:15 PM:
  Week 1 days off – Sunday/Friday;
  Week 2 days off – Tuesday/Saturday.
• Unit E2 – 2nd Shift, 2:45 PM–11:15 PM:
  Week 1 days off – Sunday/Thursday;
  Week 2 days off – Tuesday/Saturday.

Employees will be required to perform mandatory overtime.

• Treat all patients with dignity and respect, affirming their needs and preferences, and integrating their perspective into all facets of care; advocate for patients, facilitate timely resolution of concerns, and assist with exercising their rights.
• Perform charge nurse duties on a ward for a single shift on a regular basis.
• Direct, supervise, and provide nursing care in assigned areas through shift reports, review of documentation in patients’ medical records, staff meetings, and treatment planning.
• Provide nursing care by assessing health status, recording related health data, administering standard nursing treatment, evaluating patients’ conditions, and adjusting care in conjunction with other providers.
• Establish a patient care plan through consultations with other staff and supervisors and through analysis of data and symptoms.
• Admit, discharge, and transfer patients; provide and coordinate health teaching to maintain optimum health and function.
• Respond to health and safety issues by initiating appropriate action; prepare and maintain pertinent documentation in accordance with regulatory and departmental standards.
• Assess, identify, and evaluate changes in patients’ condition; document and report findings to appropriate health care personnel.
• Perform initial investigations of patients’ complaints and report findings in writing to the immediate supervisor.
• Instruct ward or unit personnel in nursing techniques, procedures, and equipment.
• Assess overall functioning of nursing staff by ensuring job performance evaluations are conducted per hospital and nursing standards.
• Administer treatment and medications as prescribed by a physician according to established hospital procedures; maintain accurate medication records.

• Knowledge of the principles and practices of nursing.
• Understanding of the problems in providing nursing services to special client groups such as mentally, physically, and/or emotionally handicapped individuals.
• Demonstrated knowledge of emergency medical procedures such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation and tourniquets.

• Experience with Meditech and Metaexperience, CPR and IV certification.
• Sound knowledge of public health philosophy, principles, practices, and theories.
• Demonstrated knowledge of standard nursing policies, procedures, methods, techniques, safety practices, and medical terminology/abbreviations.
• Ability to establish effective relationships with individuals, families, providers, physicians, and staff members.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Experience working with individuals with serious, persistent mental illness and/or substance abuse.
• American Sign Language (ASL) proficiency.
• Bilingual or multilingual fluency, as served population requires.

At least one year of full‑time (or equivalent part‑time) experience as a registered nurse in a recognized hospital, clinic, or medical facility; or a graduate degree in Nursing or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Current and valid registration as a professional nurse under the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing is required. Recent graduates must have applied for the first available RN examination. A valid Massachusetts driver’s license may be required.
