Position: HEAD GATE KEEPER

HEAD GATE KEEPER (SEASONAL) DEPARTMENT OF PARKS, RECREATION AND CEMETERY CITY OF WORCESTER

The City of Worcester is seeking qualified applicants for Head Gate Keepers for the Department of Parks, Recreation, and Cemetery. Under the direction of the Parks & Recreation Coordinator, the position is responsible for the daily operations of the facility, supervision of Gate Keepers, and monitoring guest activities of spray parks, playgrounds, and pool facilities. The position duties involve general tasks within the City of Worcester Parks system such as pool and boat house attendant, trash cleanup, distribution of meals with the summer food program, assisting with summer special events within the City of Worcester and/or assigned to a site for the duration of the summer.

This is a seasonal position, with an approximate end date of September 1, 2026.

ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS
  • Maintain daily attendance records and welcome guest to facility
  • Assist with custodial work, cleaning equipment, and trash removal
  • Maintain staff rotations and breaks
  • Assist with weekly staff schedules
  • Assist in staff evaluations
  • Complete daily recording keeping
  • Inspect facility areas and report any problems to the maintenance or to Direct Supervisor
  • Complete incident/accident forms to be submitted to Direct Supervisor
  • Open and close facility daily
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE,

SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Ability to address issues promptly, advise management of problems or concerns, violations, and areas for improvement related to policies and procedures
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with other personnel and the public
  • Ability to enforce facility rules and regulations firmly, respectfully, and impartially
  • Ability to perform manual tasks requiring some physical exertion
  • Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions
  • Ability to stay organized
  • Ability to operate canoes, paddle boats, and kayaks
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds to a height of 40 inches
  • Proven ability to maintain a safe environment for other and adherence to protocols and standards
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • High School Diploma or equivalent,
    OR;
  • Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job
  • Experience with employee supervision
  • Experience performing basic custodial work
  • Basic computer skills with Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Must be able to pass CORI/SORI background checks
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • American Red Cross First-Aid & CPR/AED Certification
  • One (1) year in a supervisory capacity that demonstrates directing recreation programs, sports related activities, outdoor recreational programs, or previous gatekeeper experience
  • One (1) year of experience with planning, organizing, and supervising large groups of individuals in an outdoor environment
STARTING SALARY

$16.00 hourly, seasonal, non-benefitted
