Veterinary Assistant​/Technician; Part-time - Methuen Animal Shelter

Position Overview

Part‑time 20 hours per week. Sign‑on bonus for Contract Veterinary Technicians (CVTs) prorated for part‑time hours. The hourly pay rate is determined by skill level:
Assistant level ranges from $20.00 to $30.00 per hour;
Certified Technician level ranges from $24.00 to $32.00 per hour, with up to $2,500 sign‑on bonus. Additional experience or credentials may result in higher compensation aligned with qualifications.

• Assist the staff veterinarian with procedures and treatments for homeless animals awaiting adoption.
• Support the veterinary team and shelter staff with examination, vaccination, and medical testing of incoming animals.
• Monitor surgical procedures—including spay/neuter, dental, and other surgeries—for animals awaiting adoption and for low‑income client patients in the community clinic.
• Work in a clinic that serves underserved communities in Lowell and Lawrence and cares for thousands of homeless animals at the Methuen Adoption Center, providing diverse surgical and medical cases not frequently seen in private practice.

• At least one year of experience as a veterinary assistant with prior animal handling experience.
• Experience in anesthesia monitoring is strongly encouraged.
• Proficiency in Spanish is strongly encouraged.
• Detail animal care experience in the cover letter.
