The Whitney Laboratory is looking for an experienced immunologist to lead the flow cytometry assay development and in vivo immune monitoring activities. The successful immunologist will specifically have the below skillset and will play a critical role in data generation for translational research projects, supporting the development of novel strategies/assays/systems/analyses.
Primary Responsibilities- Independently design, validate, and apply immunophenotyping and functional flow cytometry panels customized to align with project goals.
- Independently generate, analyze, and interpret flow cytometry and other complex data sets and prepare and present presentations to the internal team.
- Independently operate cell sorters and analyzers, including instrument set‑up, compensation control preparation, PMT voltage adjustments, experimental settings selection, sample collection (sorting), troubleshooting, and cleaning.
- Participate in upstream sample processing for flow cytometry analysis and sorting, including blood processing and tissue dissociation.
- Develop and refine immunology and flow cytometry SOPs as procedures and goals evolve and improve.
- Remain current with evolving cytometry advances and their application to drug discovery, proactively explore avenues to improve workflows, integrate new technology and improve data quality.
- Manage inventory for materials, reagents, and consumables for flow cytometry and immunology functions.
- Maintain timely and detailed documentation of experimental protocols, execution, data collection, analysis, and interpretation.
- BS 6+, MS 4+, PhD 0‑2 years of research experience in immunology, cell biology, or related field.
- 3+ years demonstrated experimental expertise in cell-based assays with a focus in flow cytometry.
- 3+ years of experience with one or more of the following instrumentation systems: BD Aria/Fusion, BD Symphony, LSR, or Fortessa.
- Experience with human or NHP biological cell sample processing relevant to flow cytometry, including working with whole blood, cell lines, and dissociated tissues; prior experience working in a BL2+ environment is beneficial.
- Familiar with techniques and instruments for mechanical and enzymatic tissue dissociation.
- Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively and to communicate complex scientific concepts with cross‑disciplinary team members.
- Established scientific expertise, including peer‑reviewed publications.
