Principal Research Scientist I, Multispecifics Engineering

Abb Vie’s Multispecifics Engineering group is seeking a highly skilled and self‑motivated scientist to support Discovery Biotherapeutics. The role involves engineering, production, and characterization of multispecific biopharmaceutical products across multiple therapeutic areas.
Key responsibilities- Design, engineer, and produce multispecific biologics supporting immunology, oncology, and neuroscience programs.
- Represent Multispecifics Engineering in cross‑functional teams, providing project updates, analysis, and advice; recognized expert in multispecific design and production.
- Act as the Biologics Lead for projects, coordinating activities and transitions from hit generation through candidate nomination.
- Identify and solve technical problems independently; conceive and implement innovative research ideas.
- Ensure consistency and quality of technical reports.
- Present original work internally and at scientific conferences; may author or co‑author peer‑reviewed papers or patents.
- PhD or MS in Biochemistry, Biochemical Engineering, or related disciplines.
- 6+ years (PhD) or 12+ years (MS) of experience in multispecific engineering or antibody engineering.
- Experience with protein, biologics, fragments, or multispecifics (bispecifics, trispecifics, bispecific protein fusions) design, expression, and purification.
- In‑depth knowledge of the multispecific landscape, design trends, and therapeutic applications.
- Ability to recognize emerging areas of interest and connect research ideas to advance platforms and programs.
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Team‑player mindset with strong verbal and written communication and a can‑do attitude.
- Experience with sequence analysis tools (Vector NTI, Geneious, Genedata).
- Experience with mass spectrometry analysis and software (Protein Metrics).
- Experience coordinating CRO production.
- Expert understanding of current protein expression, separation, and analytical technologies.
- Knowledge of biologic pipeline progression and program management experience.
- Experience managing direct reports and providing performance evaluations and development opportunities.
- Recognized in the scientific community through peer‑reviewed publications and patents.
