Discovery Biotherapeutics at Abb Vie is seeking a highly skilled, self‑motivated scientist to join a dynamic team supporting the design, engineering, and manufacturing of multispecifics. This position will have a significant impact by managing a group of scientists focused on the design, production, and characterization of multispecific biopharmaceutical products.

Key responsibilities
  • Design, engineering, and production of multispecific biologics to support Abb Vie’s Oncology therapeutic area; apply design and engineering experience with multispecific biologics for ADC and immuno‑oncology applications.
  • Manage a group of scientists within the multispecific team, focusing on the design, production, characterization of multispecific biologics, and management of multispecific inventory.
  • Serve as the biologics lead on multispecific biologics projects, coordinating activities and transitions from hit generation through candidate nomination.
  • Serve as a multispecific engineering representative on cross‑functional teams; recognized as an expert in multispecific design and production.
  • Identify and solve technical problems independently, conceive, and implement innovative processes in research ideas.
  • Present original work internally across departments and at internal and external scientific conferences; may author or co‑author peer‑reviewed scientific papers or patents.
Qualifications
  • PhD or MS degree in Biochemistry, Biochemical Engineering, or related disciplines (culture: PhD or 12+ MS years of experience in multispecific engineering or antibody engineering).
  • Experience with protein, biologics, fragments, or multispecifics (e.g., bispecifics, trispecifics, bispecific protein fusions) design, expression and purification.
  • In‑depth knowledge of the multispecific landscape, trends in design, and applications across therapeutic areas including immunology, oncology, and neuroscience.
  • Ability to recognize emerging areas of interest in multispecific engineering, antibody engineering, and related fields, and make connections between research ideas to advance platforms and programs.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Team player with the ability to operate in a fast‑paced multidisciplinary environment.
  • Goal‑oriented team player with excellent verbal and written communication skills and strong can‑do attitude.
Preferred qualifications
  • Experience with sequence analysis tools (Vector NTI, Geneious, Genedata).
  • Experience with mass spectrometry analysis and software (Protein Metrics).
  • Experience with CRO coordination for production.
  • Expert understanding of current state of protein expression, separation, and analytical technologies.
  • Extensive knowledge of biologic pipeline progression from exploratory through candidate nomination with program management experience preferred.
  • Experience managing direct reports and providing performance evaluations and development opportunities.
  • Recognized in the scientific community through a sustained record of peer‑reviewed publications and patents preferred.
