Postdoctoral Research Fellow – Pain, Neuroinflammation, or computation/ Genomics

Position Overview

Bais Laboratory seeks a postdoctoral fellow to investigate pain, inflammation, and genomic mechanisms in temporomandibular joint (TMJ) arthritis and dental pulp stem cell biology and cancer. Initial 1-year appointment, renewable based on performance and funding availability.

The lab uses a multidisciplinary team science approach to develop translational therapies. Our research spans TMJ arthritis, cancer pain, dental pulp stem cells, and integrates genomics and proteomics analyses. We maintain a strong, high-impact publication track record in Cancer Research (impact factor 22.5), Signal Transduction and Targeted Therapy (IF 81.4), International Journal of Oral Sciences (17.5), Journal of Orthopedic Translation (9.8), and others.

This position will focus primarily on pain, inflammation mechanisms and genomic approaches (must have skills), with encouraged cross-collaboration with lab members working in cancer immunotherapy, epigenetics, and stem cell biology. Interested candidates will acquire diverse expertise across multiple research areas and first- and co-authored publications. Ideal training for motivated future faculty or scientists.

Required Qualifications

  • Ph.D., DVM, or M.D. in Neuroscience, computation/Bioinformatics, or related fields; srong motivation for new discovery and willingness to adapt
  • In vivo, ex vivo, or in vitro models of pain; neuronal cell culture and DRG co-culture experience (primary) or genomics/ AI based approaches
  • Knowledge of proteomics and single-cell RNA-seq analysis is additional but not required

    Strong publication record from previous studies
  • Proficiency in: RT-qPCR, Western blot, signaling pathway analysis, cell culture, primary cell handling, lentiviral/adeno-/AAV-mediated transduction, CRISPR/Cas9, stem cells, and immunophenotyping is additional
  • Ability to work collaboratively as an enthusiastic team player
