The Worcester Recovery Center and Hospital (WRCH), a Department of Mental Health facility, is seeking a dynamic Security Team Specialist I for first‑shift duty (6:00 AM–2:00 PM). This 40‑hour position involves conducting patrols, ensuring campus safety, and maintaining compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

• Patrol all buildings, grounds, and adjacent areas of the hospital at regular intervals, guarding against trespass, theft, fire, and property damage.
• Exercise police powers to detect and apprehend law violators, investigate accidents and complaints, and maintain order among visitors and staff.
• Control motor‑vehicle traffic on hospital grounds, including parking, speeding, and other safety conditions.
• Screen visitors, direct traffic, and enforce parking controls.
• Provide personal protection to individuals as required, including searching for missing goods and persons, surveillance, and investigation of suspicious activities.
• Assist in emergencies such as heavy snowstorms, internal or external disasters, and call for professional assistance.
• Facilitate in‑service training on fire and crime prevention, basic safety standards, and practices for hospital personnel and outside agencies.
• Coordinate the maintenance of firefighting equipment, alarm systems, and other safeguards, reporting defects and requesting repairs.
• Monitor hospital switchboard, gauges, and alarm indicator panels, taking action during malfunctions or alarms.
• Prepare reports on investigations and noteworthy incidents during duty.

• Skill in dealing tactfully with individuals under physical or emotional stress.
• Ability to apprehend trespassers and law violators.
• Calm demeanor and quick decision‑making in dangerous or emergency situations.
• Discretion in handling confidential information.
• Demonstrated ability to document reports through questioning, interviewing, and reviewing records.

• Prior security experience in a health‑care facility.
• Problem‑solving skills and the ability to engage hospital staff, constituents, and community members positively.
• Sensitivity to cultural diversity, ensuring equitable treatment of all campus visitors and staff.
• Bilingual or multilingual fluency, given the population served.

Applicants will undergo a criminal background check as required by state regulations. All certifications and qualifications will be verified in accordance with Human Resources guidelines. Candidates must meet the minimum entrance requirements: at least one (1) year of full‑time or equivalent part‑time experience in security, or an associate’s degree or higher in a related field. CPR, AED, first aid, crisis intervention, and suicide prevention certifications may be required depending on the department.
