Position: Mobile Diesel Mechanic II Sat - Wed $3000 New Hire Bonus

Mobile Diesel Technician Level II

Shift: Saturday – Wednesday. Cox Fleet keeps your fleet moving. Headquartered in Indianapolis, Cox Fleet is one of the largest fleet maintenance companies in the country, providing on‑site mobile maintenance and repair services nationwide for light, medium, and heavy‑duty trucks and trailers. The company also offers accident repair, painting, refurbishment, and heavy mechanical repair through its 50+ service centers, supported by a 24/7 in‑house call center.

Duties
  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PM), DOT inspections, and follow‑up repairs on light, medium, and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile or field environment.
  • Make minor adjustments and repairs on truck equipment, including electrical, brake, cooling, starter/alternator, fan clutch, engine electronics, diesel steering, engines (gas and diesel), transmissions (manual and automatic), clutches, and differentials.
  • Diagnose, adjust, and repair vehicle equipment, using test instruments such as handheld computers and pressure gauges.
  • Road‑test vehicles to diagnose malfunctions and ensure proper operation.
  • Identify problems, evaluate alternatives, and use sound judgment to determine solutions.
  • Manage parts inventory, perform periodic reconciliation, and maintain company‑issued service vehicle with safety checks and pre/post‑trip inspections.
  • Communicate effectively with clients to assess needs, provide assistance, and resolve issues.
  • Prioritize concurrent tasks and manage own daily schedule.
  • Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks.
  • Document work on Repair Orders (RO) and upload pictures using the company‑issued iOS device and the TRAIT application.
  • Complete DOT forms and other documentation in a timely manner.
  • Maintain a high level of productivity and meet or exceed standard repair times.
  • Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as needed.
  • Communicate with management and support teams via email or phone to obtain approvals, purchase order numbers, and discuss RO findings.
  • Perform all work in compliance with safety, health, environmental policies, OSHA, EPA, and DOT regulations.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED and 3 years’ experience in a related field (or an equivalent combination such as a degree or certification beyond HS and 5 years’ experience).
  • Possess a set of hand tools necessary for the role.
  • Obtain Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) T8 (PMI) certification within 18 months.
  • Pass a DOT‑regulated pre‑employment background screening and DOT physical (or provide a DOT medical card with at least four months validity).
  • Be at least 21 years old and hold a valid state driver’s license with the ability to maintain a Driver Qualification File.
  • Safety‑trained drivers required.
Certifications
  • Required within 18 months: ASE T8 (PMI)
  • Preferred: ASE T3 (Drivetrain), ASE T4 (Brakes), ASE T5 (Suspension), ASE T6 (Electrical and Electronic Systems), ASE T7 (HVAC), ASE 608/609

Compensation

Hourly pay range: $29.42 – $44.13 per hour, with potential for additional commission or incentive programs based on performance.
