Residential Counselor

Residential Counselors work closely with our residents in therapeutic group homes to guide them to success while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries. If you are seeking meaningful and challenging work that will provide you with experience to help you achieve a degree in social work or another field of human services, we can provide that for you. You will work directly with youth to implement treatment plans, lead and model activities of daily living through effective use of structure and routine, and support the treatment philosophy of the program, centered around the trauma‑informed care model.

A successful Residential Counselor with NCYF will have the ability to assess and evaluate situations, a high level of initiative, and knowledge of acceptable behavior as it relates to at‑risk youth. They will possess strong interpersonal and communication skills and be able to communicate efficiently with parents, schools, DCF, DMH, and other community supports.

• High School Diploma or equivalent with experience in the field
• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Demonstrate a working knowledge of the principles of trauma informed care.
• Adult & Child CPR/First Aid/AED certification preferred (we will train staff)
• Approved CORI & DCF background checks (performed by the EEC)
• Approved driving background check
• Valid driver’s license
• Reliable transportation required.
• Must be at least 21 years old.
