At the core of the railway network is a dedicated workforce responsible for ensuring that every journey-whether passenger or freight-remains safe, reliable, and efficient. As an Operative within Works Delivery Signalling
, you will play a crucial part in this mission. Working hands
¿ on as part of a focused and supportive team, you will help maintain, renew, and support the signalling infrastructure that keeps the railway operating smoothly every day.

What You'll Be Doing
  • As an Operative within Works Delivery Signalling, you will support the delivery of maintenance, renewals, and project activities across signalling assets. You will receive training to work safely and competently on equipment that supports the control of train movements, including signals, points, level crossings, and associated infrastructure. Your work will contribute directly to the safety, reliability, and performance of the railway, while you build capability across manual, electrical, and technical systems.
  • Your responsibilities will include:
  • Supporting your team in carrying out essential signalling maintenance, renewals, and repair activities in accordance with established standards and procedures.
  • Preparing vehicles, tools, and equipment prior to each shift to ensure all resources are safe, compliant, and available for operational use.
  • Driving to and between work sites and assisting with the transportation and handling of tools, materials, and equipment.
  • Undertaking lookout and site safety duties, helping to maintain a safe working environment and protect colleagues from operational railway movements.
  • Working outdoors in all weather conditions, including during periods of physically demanding activity and within safety
    ¿ critical environments.
