JOB SUMMARY
Under the oversight of the Construction Supervisor - Worland or Plant Supervisor - Forsyth, the Construction Technician-I performs entry-level labor and project work. The role requires basic knowledge of fiber optic, copper, and ariel cabl ing, and operations of industrial equipment (vibratory plow, trencher, digging equipment and industrial pneumatic bore). Work tasks are laborious and require the use of hand tools (shovels, drills, hammers, etc.).
In support of the Technician-II and Leads, this role assists with placement and removal of cable, performs s plices, and maintains or repairs cable s in accordance with construction plans and work orders. Requires use and wear of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). Frequent travel for construction projects is a requirement for success in this position.
- a. Perform earthwork labor with various hand tools and industry related equipment (vibratory plow, trencher, digging equipment, industrial pneumatic bore).
- b. Perform maintenance of buried cable, performing tests and repairs (removals, replacement, and splicing).
- c. Restore all disturbed surfaces including concrete and pavement surfaces to acceptable condition s.
- d. As assigned, operates (when supervised) various heavy equipment, as needed (plows, backhoes, trailer, etc.).
- e. Mounts demarcation devices and protectors at customer premises.
- f. Assists with the maintenance of construction equipment, trailers, and vehicles.
- a. Assists with installation and removal of aerial cable and pole lines.
- b. Assists with inspection, replacement, or repair of aerial cable and poles.
- c. Select and attach appropriate hardware, install, or reinstall in accordance with project work order.
- a. Work with copper and fiber optic cables in accordance with construction plans and drawings (new construction).
- a. Assist with preventative maintenance on project worksite(s) cable s.
- b. Perform cable tests to troubleshoot issues and identify defective components or sections.
- c. Repair or remove and replace defective cable section or related component (s).
- c. Remove obsolete cable as appropriate.
Completion of one or more of the following certifications:
- Successful completion of Technical School, a 2-year / associate degree (in Electronics, Telecommunications, and/or Construction)
- Class A CDL
- Tower Certification
- Pole Certification
