Wyoming Boys' School Staff Member
Description and FunctionsOpen until filled. The Wyoming Boys' School (WBS) is a secure facility providing adjudicated delinquent males ages 12-21 years with opportunities to make changes in their lives. Staff members provide supportive services focusing on psychological/emotional stability, educational and physical development, and mental health therapies. Programs are specifically designed for youth to learn socially responsible values and life skills, restructure their critical thinking, and prepare for a successful transition back to their families and communities.
This position offers a unique opportunity, a less conventional work schedule, and the ability to work with a supportive team. Located along the Big Horn River, Worland offers a strong community feel, beautiful mountain views, and protection from severe weather via the Big Horn Basin topography. Additionally, Wyoming is one of only nine states with no state income tax.
Essential functions include providing for the safety and security of students during awake hours, monitoring support and assisting students and staff, responding to all emergencies, maintaining a logbook of facility activities, producing and/or reviewing incident reports, managing radio traffic regarding facility events and student movement, greeting guests in a manner that reflects a positive image and with excellent customer service, frequently transporting students to and from appointments and activities, directing or assisting in investigations involving risk management, safety, and welfare of students and staff, conducting frequent observation of physical plant structures and perimeter areas, and assisting with supervision of off-ground activities.
QualificationsPreference may be given to applicants with a high school diploma and one year of work experience with the public or youth. However, anyone interested in an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of youth is encouraged to apply. The Boys' School will provide training and mentorship to ensure that new team members have the resources and knowledge to succeed in this role.
Knowledge includes skills and ability to assess the grounds and buildings' safety and risk factors, skills and ability to interact with residents, staff, and the public respectfully and professionally, skills and ability to de-escalate youth, and skills and ability to safely demonstrate physical and non-physical intervention during crises where residents are hostile, aggressive, out-of-control, and in danger of harming themselves, others, or property.
Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma and 0-2 years of progressive work experience (typically in Youth Services) with acquired knowledge at the level of a(n) Youth Services Aide or 1-3 years of progressive work experience (typically in Youth Services) with acquired knowledge at the level of a(n) Youth Services Aide. Certificates, licenses, or registrations are not required.
NecessarySpecial Requirements
Physical working conditions include completing all mandatory State of Wyoming and Wyoming Boys' School training and remaining awake and alert during the shift. All positions within the Department of Family Services will require a background information check, including the taking of fingerprints, which will be completed through the Wyoming Department of Criminal Investigation, the Department of Family Services, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation for every successful applicant.
