Secondary Assistant Plant Engineer

Position Overview

JBS USA is seeking an Assistant Plant Engineer to join the Value Added team in Worthington, MN. The role focuses on ensuring reliable plant equipment, maintaining safety programs, managing training, and supporting continuous improvement across fabrication, slaughter, and support areas.

• Ensure reliability of plant equipment and meet downtime & operational goals for fabrication, slaughter, warehousing, wastewater treatment, etc.
• Manage training programs to maintain workforce skill levels.
• Motivate interest in safety programs while maintaining labor efficiency and effective response to breakdowns.
• Maintain close communications with operations and other departments.
• Assist with continuous plant improvement initiatives.
• Ensure reliable and cost-effective operation of utility systems (ammonia refrigeration, air compression, electrical distribution).
• Develop and maintain relationships with contractors, vendors, and USDA.
• Coordinate scale checks, preventative maintenance on scales, readers, printers, alarms, and reactive maintenance on automated systems and instrumentation.
• Assign equipment-specific job assignments supporting plant goals.
• Provide expertise in automation, electrical, and instrumentation for projects using approved components and standards.
• Apply understanding of National Electric Code, NFPA 70, NFPA 70E, industrial electrical systems, and process instrumentation.
• Additional duties as assigned.

• Minimum 10 years progressively responsible experience in industrial maintenance, with 5+ years in a food processing industry.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Extensive background in ammonia refrigeration, air compressor technology, variable frequency motor controls, and sanitary maintenance.
• PSM experience preferred.
• Demonstrated people skills and supervisory experience with direct and indirect staff.
• Basic computer skills (Word, Excel).
• Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or 5 additional years of applicable experience.
