About the Department: The Department of Finance, Financial Planning, and Insurance offers a Bachelor of Science with specializations in Financial Analysis, Financial Planning, and Risk Management and Insurance, alongside an MBA. The department serves close to 1,000 students and supports student engagement through initiatives and organizations such as the FMA–CSUN chapter. A notable feature is student-centered investment funds managed by undergraduates.
The department provides research resources and teaching opportunities, including access to tools like WRDS and other university-supported resources.
Position: The Department of Finance, Financial Planning and Insurance at CSUN seeks two tenure-track faculty members in Finance at the rank of Assistant Professor. The successful candidate will teach Finance courses and maintain an ongoing program of scholarship in finance, meeting the AACSB criterion for “Scholarly Academic.”
In addition to teaching and research, the position requires weekly office hours, participation in faculty meetings, assessment of student learning, and service to the department, college, and university. The candidate will work toward equitable outcomes for all students through teaching, mentorship, scholarship, and service.
Required Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Finance, Financial Economics, or related field from an accredited institution
- Evidence of, or clear potential for, conducting and publishing original research on finance
- Evidence of, or clear potential for, excellence in university-level teaching (in-person and online) in areas such as investment, corporate finance, and finance electives
Preferred Qualifications:
- Evidence of, or clear potential for, impactful research in Finance
- Evidence of effective engagement or potential to engage with a diverse student body
- Experience or potential for using culturally responsive pedagogy that leads to equitable outcomes
- Experience or potential for creating a student-centered learning environment

Department representatives will conduct initial on-site interviews at the FMA Annual Meeting in October 2025 in Vancouver, BC. A Zoom option is available for those not attending FMA.
