Alaska General Seafoods Ketchikan is seeking an experienced, organized, and hardworking individual to join our Safety Department as an Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Coordinator
. This is a seasonal position based at our Ketchikan, Alaska facility, with availability required from June 1 through approximately September 5, depending on the salmon run.

The starting wage ranges from $20-$23 per hour
, depending on experience. This position includes free board and lodging

The EHS Coordinator is responsible for overseeing all environmental compliance, health, and safety programs at the facility. This role works closely with Corporate EHS to develop, implement, and maintain written programs, inspection forms and guidelines, training curricula, policies, and practices to ensure compliance with applicable regulatory requirements, including but not limited to OSHA, AK OSH, L&I, ADEC, EPA, and DOT.

The EHS Coordinator communicates regulatory updates and practical compliance strategies to leadership, provides training and guidance across departments, completes required permits and reports, and supports workers’ compensation loss control initiatives. The role regularly reviews production operations to audit programs and records, conduct physical site inspections, and train staff. This position maintains organized paper and electronic records and reports to the EHS Supervisor.

• Oversee all environmental compliance, health, and safety programs throughout the plant.
• Develop, implement, and update written programs, inspection guidelines, forms, training materials, policies, and practices to meet or exceed regulatory requirements.
• Stay current on regulatory changes and initiatives and communicate relevant updates to managers and leadership.
• Create practical and proactive solutions to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
• Conduct site-specific training related to environmental compliance and industrial safety.
• Monitor plant records for accuracy and completeness.
• Conduct continuous facility audits; identify deficiencies and areas for improvement, prioritize risks, establish corrective action timelines, and verify abatement.
• Serve as an internal technical resource for environmental and safety compliance matters.
• Implement initiatives to reduce and prevent work-related injuries and illnesses.
• Maintain a systematic paper and electronic records-retention program.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

• Conduct and document daily EHS walk-arounds of the facility and grounds.
• Monitor daily and shift-based powered industrial truck inspections.
• Perform daily sea surface and shoreline monitoring.
• Monitor grinder systems and flow meters.
• Respond to onsite incidents, injuries, and near-misses; conduct investigations as required.
• Coordinate with onsite medical providers to ensure proper incident documentation and workers’ compensation claim submission.
• Update facility Incident/Injury Logs and OSHA Logs as required.
• Scan and file EHS documentation to the facility server and maintain three (3) years of physical records onsite.
• Monitor and respond to company email communications.

• Inspect emergency eyewash and safety shower stations.
• Inspect first aid kits and AEDs.
• Conduct bunkhouse egress and fire-prevention inspections.
• Perform oil storage and spill kit inspections.
• Conduct dock inspections.

• Inspect fire extinguishers and emergency exit lighting.
• Conduct environmental water sampling and record pH, total residual chlorine, and temperature.
• Perform stormwater monitoring and inspections.
• Complete Environmental Management System (EMS) monthly checklists.
