OverviewUnder the supervision of the Clinical Educator, the Nursing Assistant Trainee will provide general nursing care in Acute Care/Long Term Care to non-acute and/or acutely ill patients or residents while maintaining a safe and clean environment.
Responsibilities- Provide general nursing care for adult and geriatric patients/residents.
- Perform bed baths, oral hygiene, hair care, back care, dressing and application of heat/cold treatments and anti‑embolism stockings.
- Obtain and record vital signs, weight, height, pulse oximetry and intake‑output measurements in the electronic health record (EHR).
- Collect and transport specimens to the correct departments.
- Report any abnormal vital signs, changes observed in condition or behavior of patients/residents and unusual incidents.
- Assist in bed‑side care: repositioning, lifting, turning, use of bedpan, urinal, commode, emptying Foley catheter, answering call lights and making rounds.
- Ambulate patients/residents and transport them to and from various departments.
- Assist patients/residents with meals and feeding.
- Assist with personal belongings such as dentures, glasses, contact lenses, hearing aids, prosthetic devices.
- Change bed linen, clean over‑bed table and bedside stand, straighten room and other general care as needed.
- Assist Registered Nurse with medivac transport preparations.
- Prepare nursing areas and patient/resident rooms for admissions, transfers, emergencies or discharges.
- Assist in and clean utility rooms, prepare equipment for disinfection or sterilization, report equipment out of order.
- Handle clean and dirty linen and store supplies in the service area as instructed.
- Float to other departments as needed under supervision of a Registered Nurse.
- Dispose of all solid and infectious waste according to policies.
- Replenish supplies in patient/resident rooms and bathrooms as needed.
- Perform other duties assigned by a Registered Nurse.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience: No experience required.
- Knowledge: Able to follow instructions and demonstrate the scope of practice when caring for patients/residents, maintain a safe environment with infection control practices, proper equipment use, differentiate normal and abnormal patient findings, communicate appropriately to the nurse on duty.
- Skills: Oral and written communication, maintain a clean work environment with proper infection control practices, provide general nursing care under supervision of a Registered Nurse.
- Abilities: Work cooperatively, establish and maintain interpersonal relationships with patients, residents, visitors and team members, assure confidentiality of patient information at all times.
